Museum: Introduction
Why collecting?

This is a question I have asked myself many times, and the answer is always the same:

Collecting things from the past helps us to be someone in the future.
Collecting ancient spectacles has two main purposes for our family:

  • To collect, to restore when possible and to catalogue this object helps us to understand its past and its evolution through the years. Unfortunately very often this object is not considered as the one that had let culture and craftsmanship not to stop in front of a defect of the most important sense: the sight.
  • Progress comes from mistakes and solutions. By collecting what have been sold through the years, we can understand the old opticians’ skills and fantasy, that we can reach only using new technologies. As making glasses is not only appearance, solutions found in the past can help us to create new collections where the quality is the most important aspect.

We are proud and happy to allow all our clients and everyone who is interested in this small object, to have a brief history of glasses and all the pictures from our private collection.

As nobody knows everything, and the knowledge comes from exchanging different thoughts. So that any advice for keeping or restoring the natural material these objects are made of, is welcome.
