The instrument shown is a transportable box for performing visual tests, built in France in the late 1800s to bring prevention to local markets when the presence of suitable structures was not yet widespread in the area. The serial number of this auto-Visiometre is 490, evidence of the fact that it was a widespread instrument. It allowed the correction of the dioptric power of the eyes individually, both for the distance and for the reading, in addition to the newly discovered astigmatism and the test could be guided by the operator or the subject himself could “self-correct”<\/em>.<\/p>\n
